Hi everyone! Today, I am proud to share a major academic milestone in my career . Together with Professor Rodríguez Cornejo , I have recently published our latest research paper in the prestigious peer-reviewed journal Innovation: The European Journal of Social Science Research . The article is titled Data security and privacy in the tourist industry: challenges arising from the use of artificial intelligence and big data. A review of the literature . In this paper, we tackle a highly topical issue that affects all of us every time we plan a trip: how emerging technologies impact the security and privacy of our personal data . The Context: The Rise of "Tourism 4.0" Today, tourism organizations and smart destinations are rapidly adopting Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data (BD) . Their goal? The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Innovative Tourism Entrepreneurship: A Systematic Review of Trends

Imagen
In an ever-evolving global landscape, the tourism industry stands at a critical crossroads driven by disruptive technologies . This chapter presents a comprehensive Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA statement to explore whether the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data (BD) tools facilitates or hinders the emergence of Innovative Tourism Entrepreneurship (ITE) compared to traditional market methods . By analyzing various theoretical frameworks (such as RBV, DCT, and UTAUT), the study demonstrates that AI acts as a crucial enabler . It empowers new entrepreneurs to process massive data volumes, personalize traveler experiences in real-time, and automate complex processes . However, the research also highlights that successful integration heavily relies on human factors—such as managerial digital skills and managing employee resistance to change—while navigating persistent financial and technical barriers . Ultimately, this work provides a st...

Operational Agility: The way AI-driven analytics allow small tourism firms to compete with global giants by optimising resources. Smart Destinations: The role of AI in creating more sustainable and interconnected tourism e...

Is Tourism Doing Enough? Linking CSR with the Sustainable Development Goals

In our latest collaborative research, we’ve taken a deep dive into one of the most pressing issues for the modern travel sector: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) . While many tourism organisations talk a big game about "going green", we wanted to look under the bonnet and see how these policies actually align with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) . Is it just clever marketing, or are we seeing genuine progress towards a fairer, more sustainable future? What we discovered Our review, titled "The Implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility Policies in the Tourism Industry and Sustainable Development Goals: A Review of Progress, Challenges, and Opportunities" , explores the complex relationship between business ethics and global targets. We found that: Progress is happening , but it’s often fragmented across different sectors of the industry. My goal is to translate rigorous academic findings into actionable insights for entrepreneurs, students, and professionals. What will we explore? Throughout my academic career—from my doctoral thesis on the innovative propensity of tour...
